The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 left the world in awe with its grandeur. Held along the River Seine on Friday, the event featured 85 boats transporting nearly 7,000 athletes from 205 countries along a 6-kilometer stretch of the river.
Among the standout moments of this spectacular ceremony were two unique figures: a masked torchbearer sprinting across rooftops and a caped rider on a metal horse, who rode down the Seine to deliver the Olympic flag.

The ceremony began with French football legend Zinedine Zidane carrying the torch to ignite the Olympic flame. The torch was then passed to children in a boat, who were soon joined by a masked figure. This figure took the torch from the children and leaped across the rooftops and landmarks of the City of Lights before returning it to Zidane.
Another masked individual, clad in silver armour adorned with Olympic Rings, rode a metal horse carrying the Olympic flag from the Pont d’Iena to the Place du Trocadero.
This rider was Floriane Issert, a non-commissioned officer in the Gendarmerie Nationale. As she passed under bridges, she unfurled dove wings, followed by a group of Games volunteers carrying the national flags.

The parade featured athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and meandered along the Seine, passing by iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, and the Grand Palais.
The ceremony concluded with a live performance by Celine Dion on the Eiffel Tower, marking her first public appearance since being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, at the end of 2022.
