MALAGA, Spain: South Africa is on course to win a fifth consecutive leg of the rugby sevens world series after reaching the semifinals in Spain on Saturday.

The South Africans overcame Canada 14-0 in the quarterfinals with two tries in the last three minutes by Ryan Oosthuizen and Justin Geduld.

Going back to last season, they have won 27 successive matches, second only to New Zealands 47-win streak in 2007-08.

In the semifinals on Sunday, South Africa will play Australia, and Argentina, lying second in the series, will meet England.

Australia rebounded from a pool-ending 10-5 loss to Ireland by knocking out the United States 26-7.

Argentina also lost its last pool match, to the U.S., then thrashed Ireland 29-5 in the quarters, launched by two first-half tries by Marcos Moneta.

England was humbled by South Africa 43-0 in the morning and came back in the quarterfinals by beating France 12-5 thanks to Blake Boylands try to break 5-5 at halftime.
