Billionaire Elon Musk took to social media site X – which is owned by him – to announce that he has joined Disney as their Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Officer in order to make their content more ‘woke’.
Excited to join @Disney as their Chief DEI Officer. Can’t wait to work with Bob Iger & Kathleen Kennedy to make their content MORE woke!
Even the linguini.

“Excited to join @Disney as their Chief DEI Officer. Can’t wait to work with Bob Iger & Kathleen Kennedy to make their content MORE woke! Even the linguini,” Elon Musk said in a post on X.
But since neither the mass media and entertainment conglomerate nor did Elon Musk’s spokesperson made any official announcement, netizens are convinced that the SpaceX chief’s post on the social media site which was formerly Twitter is an April Fool’s prank.
An anonymous source just sent me this from Disney. It is mandatory, institutionalized racism and sexism! pic.twitter.com/npMy8YfA1j— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 6, 2024
Disney chief Bob Iger and Tesla CEO Elon Musk have been at loggerheads since Disney joined 200 major advertisers to leave the microblogging platform in November 2023 after the Tesla CEO agreed with an user on the microblogging site when the latter claimed that Jewish people stroke hatred against white people.
“The association with that position, Elon Musk and X was not necessarily a positive one for us,” Bob Iger later said at a summit.
Musk also on previous occasions has expressed his discontent with DEI policies of major companies and in the tech industry.
DEI, or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, emphasizes creating policies and environments where all individuals, regardless of differences, feel valued and included. It aims to address systemic biases, promote fairness in opportunities and focuses on making workplaces inclusive for all individuals, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other characteristics.
However, Musk has previously slammed DEI policies as ‘institutionalised racism and sexism’. Earlier this year, he said he would help actor Gina Carano fight her lawsuit against Disney after she was fired from her role in “The Mandalorian” due to controversial social media posts that were deemed offensive and inappropriate by Lucasfilm. Her posts drew criticism for their alleged insensitivity towards marginalized groups. Carano has maintained that she is being targeted for her political views.
