Prime Minister Narendra Modi extolled the virtues of a zero-carbon footprint lifestyle, saying Mahatma Gandhi was one of the greatest environmentalists of the world who led such a lifestyle. Modi was addressing the Global Citizen Live programme, an event that is part of a “world recovery” relief campaign focusing on Covid-19, ending the hunger crisis, resuming learning for all among others.
The prime minister also shared the experience of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, which has taught people that they are “stronger and better when together”. He said generations will remember how human resilience prevailed over all else during the pandemic.
Music artistes such as K-pop sensation BTS are set to perform at the event. The line-up also includes Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd, Lorde, Metallica, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, and Lizzo among others. Aastha Gill, Amit Trivedi, Tanishk Bagchi, Zara Khan, Nikhita Gandhi, and Yasser Desai will be performing from India.
