Motorcycle stunt riding, while not a new sport, remains unfamiliar to many. Most stunt riders prefer lightweight, heavily customised bikes that are highly agile, making them easier to control during complex manoeuvres. Aspiring stunt riders should understand that performing stunts requires more than just enthusiasm; it demands a unique skill set, physical stamina, agility and a positive mindset. Unfortunately, one duo learned this the hard way. While attempting a reckless stunt, the rider narrowly avoided a life-threatening accident. A video shared on Instagram captures the moment the rider, with a woman as his passenger, decided to perform a wheelie. The sudden acceleration caused the woman to lose her balance, leading to a terrifying accident where she was trapped between the seat and the wheel as the bike sped forward.
As she struggled to escape the perilous situation, the video captured her screams. The stunt was recklessly performed in the middle of the road, with fast-moving vehicles approaching from behind. Alarming as it was, neither the rider nor the pillion passenger was wearing a helmet. For context, a wheelie involves lifting the front end of the bike and balancing the entire vehicle on just the rear wheel.
Since being shared on the social media platform, the video garnered 240 million views.
The Times Of India (TOI), citing police statistics, claimed that since 2022, the number of parents and guardians paying court penalties for their kids who were caught doing wheelies in Bengaluru on a two-wheeler has increased fourfold.
22 children who were discovered wheeling in 2022 had their parents or guardians appear in court and pay the fine, which was less than two each month on average. By 2023, there were 71 of these parents/guardians or an average of six each month.
In the first seven months of this year, 74 people have already paid penalties for handing over their bikes to their wards or children—on average, more than ten times each month.
