Snake charmers often advocate against killing snakes, citing their tendency not to bite without reason. However, recent events have challenged this belief. A viral Instagram video depicted a poisonous cobra attacking a snake charmer, sinking its teeth into the charmer’s hand and causing widespread concern.
In the video, the snake charmer’s condition deteriorates rapidly as he struggles to control the snake’s bite. With considerable effort, he manages to loosen the snake’s grip and remove its tooth, flaring panic among onlookers. A nearby boy hastily ties a rope around the charmer’s hand to prevent the venom from spreading, yet the charmer remains fearful of the poison’s effects. Desperate to save himself, he resorts to a drastic measure, using a blade to pierce his hands and induce bleeding, presumably in an attempt to remove the venom from his bloodstream.

The video, shared on Instagram by user Abdullah Al Balushi, has amassed millions of views and garnered over 17,000 likes. Comments on the post reflect a range of reactions, with some expressing concern for the charmer’s well-being and others criticising his decision to perform such a dangerous stunt. Despite the shocking nature of the video, instances of humans interacting with animals, both benign and deadly, are commonplace on social media platforms.
In a separate incident, another viral video captured an elderly man bravely capturing a snake found in a vegetable market in the Godda district of Jharkhand. The footage shows the man skillfully apprehending the snake, which had taken refuge under a sack of potatoes in a vegetable shop.
These videos serve as reminders of the unpredictable nature of wild animals and the risks associated with interacting with them, even for seasoned individuals like snake charmers. While such encounters may showcase human bravery and animal-human bonds, they also show the importance of exercising caution and seeking professional assistance when dealing with potentially dangerous wildlife.
