Turkish Man Sets Guinness World Record In Basketball With Blindfolded Hook Shot
Osman Gurcu made the remarkable blindfolded hook shot from a staggering distance of 20 metres (65 feet and 7 inches).

A Turkish man set a Guinness World Records (GWR) title when he successfully sank a jaw-dropping blindfolded hook shot from a staggering distance of 20 metres (65 feet and 7 inches). Osman Gurcu, a 42-year-old sports enthusiast, surpassed the previous record for the farthest blindfolded hook shot, which stood at 60 feet. He achieved this remarkable feat on April 20.

In a video shared by GWR on X, Osman stands on an indoor basketball court, blindfolded as he prepares to take his shot. With impressive skill, he sinks the hook shot from the record-breaking distance and the ball goes straight through the net. His happiness is evident as he removes his blindfold, clearly thrilled by his remarkable achievement.

While explaining his record-breaking technique, Osman told GWR, “Since I was young I’ve been interested in trick shots like the longest distance shot, it was my dream to break a world record like this.”

When he finally received confirmation from the Guinness World Records team, the excitement was palpable. “I was very happy when I got the email from the Guinness World Records team saying I was officially amazing,” he said.

“I am very proud to be a record breaker and I have plans to break more,” he added.

According to reports, this is not his first Guinness World Record. The 42-year-old basketball enthusiast has achieved a GWR for the farthest behind-the-backboard basketball shot at 11 meters (36 feet 1.07 inches). Additionally, he set the record for the farthest basketball bounce shot from a remarkable distance of 30 meters (98 feet 5 inches).

Osman recently set another record which is a bit unusual: the farthest throw of a rubber chicken, measuring an impressive 35 meters (114 feet 9 inches). This quirky achievement took place in Denizli, Turkiye, on August 30, 2024. Previously, the record was held by Aled Sion Davies, who tossed a rubber chicken a distance of 20.82 meters (68.3 feet) at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff, Wales, on February 28, 2022.

Notably, the most blindfolded basketball slam dunks in one-minute stands at 9, a feat accomplished by Julian “Zeus” McClurkin of the Harlem Globetrotters. He set this record at the LakePoint Champions Center in Cartersville, Georgia, USA, on December 7, 2021.
