A recent viral TikTok video revealed a hidden gem at McDonald’s, which is a Dinner Box priced at just $12 (approximately Rs 1000). The video quickly gained traction online, featuring the TikToker and her family entering the drive thru and requesting the mystery item. To everyone’s surprise, the fast food chain indeed had the meal readily available, they even asked the content creator about her sauce preference. Upon arriving home, the creator unboxed the food items from the secret menu. Inside, there were two cheeseburgers, four packets of fries, a box of chicken nuggets and two Big Macs, neatly packed. The receipt displayed on screen confirmed the unbelievable deal. While the box contained various mouthwatering treats, the creator clarified that it doesn’t come with any kind of beverage.
The TikToker confessed in her video that she herself wasn’t unaware about the deal. She explained, “We haven’t ordered this before but I remember in a video that I had posted on the Texas Roadhouse one somebody in the comment had said that McDonald’s had a dinner box, so we just picked it up and let me show you guys what comes inside. There are two cheeseburgers here, four small fries, 10 piece chicken nuggets, there’s two Big Macs. $12 (approximately Rs 1000) y’all, that’s pretty good. So if you didn’t know, like we didn’t know, $12 gets you a dinner box, it’s not on the menu so you’re probably going to just have to ask for two cheeseburgers, two Big Macs, four small fries and 10 piece nuggets, no drink."
Although the TikToker didn’t specify her location, social media users in the comments section claimed that they couldn’t find the same Dinner Box in their city or prices were different, as one even shared that McDonald’s was selling the same box for $18 (approximately Rs 1400) in their hometown.
Reacting to the clip, a user shared, “Wow, that’s a pretty fair price."
Another added, “McDonald’s can’t do this. They’d be losing money."
An individual asked, “TF. Isn’t 12 bucks what a big Mack alone costs now?"
In 2014, Business Insider provided insights into the specific dinner box featured in the TikTok video. The article suggested that the deal was putting McDonald’s at loss, which was aimed to attract customers. Sean O’Keefe, a professor at Virginia Tech specialising in Food Science, speculated that these promotions likely produce only a slight profit for the chain. However, the primary goal is to generate buzz and visibility for McDonald’s.
