Zomato, the leading food delivery giant, has disclosed its food-ordering trends for the year 2023, unveiling intriguing insights into the eating habits of its vast user base. Topping this trends chart is a Mumbai resident known as Hanees, who has earned the title of the “nation’s biggest foodie” by placing a staggering 3,580 orders through the platform — an average of more than nine orders per day.
The annual report highlights the diversity of users on the platform as another Mumbai resident placed 121 orders in a single day, setting a new record.
Breaking down the culinary habits of various cities, Zomato revealed that Bengaluru led the pack in breakfast orders, while Delhi secured the top spot for late-night cravings. Additionally, the southern city of Bengaluru also claimed the record for the largest single order this year, amounting to Rs 46,273. Not to be outdone, a generous customer from the same city sent an impressive 1,389 gift orders via Zomato, totalling Rs 6.6 lakh.
In colossal numbers, biryani and pizza continued their reign as the most sought-after dishes on Zomato, with over 10.09 crore biryani orders and 7.45 crore pizza orders placed throughout the year. To put this into perspective, Zomato calculated that the biryani orders could fill eight Qutub Minar in Delhi, while the pizzas could blanket an area larger than five Eden Garden cricket stadiums in Kolkata.
Noodle bowls secured the third spot in the food-ordering trends, amassing over 4.55 crore orders. Zomato declared that this quantity of noodles would be enough to wrap around the Earth’s circumference 22 times.
Interestingly, Zomato’s findings align with Swiggy’s year-ender report, which affirmed biryani as the most-ordered dish for the eighth consecutive year. Both industry giants unanimously declared biryani as the undisputed champion, holding its coveted title as the most-ordered dish for an impressive eighth consecutive year.
Swiggy disclosed that India collectively ordered 2.5 biryanis per second in 2023, with a notable mention of a Hyderabadi individual who ordered a remarkable 1,633 biryanis this year. Hyderabad emerged as the biryani capital of Swiggy, with every sixth order for the dish originating from the city.
