It is believed that the best love stories are not affected by superficial factors like race and nationality. Recently, a budding rapper shared one such love story of his Japanese mother and Odia father and how they together run a hotel in Puri, Odisha. Samir Rishu Mohanty, known by his stage name Rapper Big Deal, shared in an Instagram video that his mother first visited Puri when she was a college student and was travelling around the world. After graduating, she decided to settle in Puri and focus on finishing her book.

When she returned to Puri, she wanted to get a source of income to support her book writing. Her plan was to build a hotel catered to Japanese tourists, as back then, Puri was a popular destination among Japanese. However, his mother could not buy land for her hotel because she was a foreign national. She eventually met her husband and together they built a hotel and named it “Love and Life”. The hotel still stands tall in Puri.

This video got over 66,000 likes. The rapper captioned this video, “Mummy Bapa. I’ve shared this with so many people and now this belongs to the world.”

An Instagram user commented on it, “Agra has Taj Mahal, Puri has Love and Life. Mom sounds like a very ambitious and determined person. Proud of you ma!”

Another person wrote, “Bro, you are representing two great countries because of your parents.”

Someone else commented, “Believe me! This literally sounds like a story straight outta the Ghibli studios anime. I am staying single if this is not happening to me!”

A person also recalled staying at this hotel and wrote, “What?? Love and Life is the first hotel in Puri we went to as kids. I still have pictures standing in front of that hotel when I was a kid.”

Samir Rishu Mohanty has 1.7 lakh Instagram followers. He has a thriving rapping career. Samir first shot to fame by participating in a MTV India show titled MTV Sync, where he collaborated with rapper Blaaze and created a track called Microphone.

In 2015, he sang Bach Ke Bakshy for the film Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. In 2017, he released his crowd-funded EP “One Kid With A Dream”. His raps in Odia have earned him a loyal fanbase across the state.
