Railways Take Action After Passenger Accuses Shopkeeper Of Overcharging At Guwahati Station
A man recently shared a video, claiming that a local stall at Guwahati railway station asked him to pay Rs 10 extra for a packet of cake.

People, who travel by train, often find themselves overcharged for basic items like water bottles, biscuits, snacks and more at railway station shops. With limited options, passengers reluctantly pay the inflated prices. This issue affects millions of passengers daily, yet no resolution seems in sight unless someone decides to protest. Recently, one man took a stand at Guwahati Railway Station after being overcharged for a product.

A video of the incident is going viral on social media, sparking heated debate online. In the clip, the man explains that the shopkeeper asked him to pay Rs 50 for a cake with an MRP of Rs 40. When he questioned the extra charge, the shopkeeper became agitated and began misbehaving with him before eventually returning the money. The video also shows the shopkeeper attempting to snatch the man’s phone.

Frustrated with the shopkeeper’s unethical practices, the man, Avinash, filed a complaint against him, prompting authorities to take action. “Finally, action has been taken against the shopkeeper, and he has been penalised Rs 1000 and fired from his job. Platform no. 3 Guwahati station (Assam) what is happening in Assam: misbehaving with a customer and not following the Legal Metrology Rules (Pre-Packed Commodities) PCR, 2011? Is this Indian law? Are the shopkeepers following the rules and regulations, or they don’t need to follow?!!!!” he wrote in the post.

The post instantly went viral, drawing a lot of reactions on the social media platform.

A user wrote, “Fridge charge is also a big huge scam,” while another commented, “Under the shop name it clearly states “all paid items as per MRP.“ Definitely complain.”

“People have made a joke of MRP,” another one remarked, while one wrote, “Good.. we as citizens should hold everyone accountable!”

One of the comments read, “Good! Such people need to face the law! And citizens need to start complaining instead of showing sympathy towards their state! They may have difficulties, but the law doesn’t allow them to charge above the prices set forth!”
