Once Athens' Pride, Faliro Olympic Beach Volleyball Centre Now Lies In Ruins
The seating appeared to be intact for the most part but its grey hue and dust-coated surface only suggest they haven’t been put to use in a very long time.

Once a pride of Athens during the 2004 Olympic Games, the Faliro Olympic Beach Volleyball Centre currently finds itself in a dilapidated state. The 2024 Olympics concluded in Paris on August 12, putting an end to the two-week-long sporting extravaganza. Following the celebrations on the final day, questions are being raised about the fate of certain venues after they are finished hosting events such as the Olympics. Earlier this year, Urban explorer Mr Airborne took it upon himself to delve into this curiosity by analysing the condition of one the most pivotal sporting venues in Athens from 2004.

The Faliro Olympic Beach Volleyball Centre was opened to the public in August 2004, right before the Athens Olympic Games began. The said year marked a momentous event as the Olympics returned to its birthplace in Athens, Greece. It led to the Volleyball Centre becoming a hub for several sporting events that year. However, turmoil followed the triumph quickly as only a mere decade later, in August 2014, the venue found itself forgotten and forsaken. It has been reported that there are proposals currently in the pipeline to turn the abandoned Volleyball into a courtroom but Mr Airborne’s visit earlier this year revealed a completely spooky scene.

As per the Daily Star, Mr Airborne described the place to be eerie. The 29-year-old content creator revealed the decaying state of the site. The centre’s floor was completely littered with rubble and trash. The bleachers were coated with a thick layer of dust. Graffiti could be seen covering the walls while rust slowly consumed the metal staircases. The seating appeared to be intact for the most part but its grey hue and dust-coated surface only suggest they haven’t been put to use in a very long time. Mr Airborne along with his mates, Will and Jamie, had found a way into the site through a broken fence at the rear. Their exploration ended quickly after the arrival of the local police.

Given the condition of the storied sporting venue, even Mr Airbone was left wondering about the fate of stadiums such as these.
