Mohammed Siraj unleashed a cricketing tempest in the second Test at Cape Town, leaving South Africa in tatters with his awe-inspiring six-wicket haul. ‘Miyan’ Siraj’s enchanting performance restricted the hosts to a paltry 55 runs on the opening day of the ongoing clash. The Indian speedster made the cricket ball dance to his tune, taking the spotlight after South Africa’s skipper, Dean Elgar, chose to bat first.
From the get-go, Siraj proved to be a gold mine for India. He initiated the onslaught by dismissing Aiden Markram in the fourth over, courtesy of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s remarkable catch at third slip. The big catch, however, was Elgar in the following over, as the South African captain succumbed to a chopping shot. The domino effect continued with wickets falling at regular intervals, aided by the lethal combination of Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mukesh Kumar, who each chipped in with two wickets. Together, they bundled the hosts and showcased their true worth.

Meanwhile, the match witnessed South Africa’s top four batsmen amass a mere 11 runs, marking their second-lowest total in history and the lowest since 1927. Siraj’s eighth over proved especially lethal, delivering an awkward bounce that had Bedingham gloving it to the slip cordon. With half the side back in the pavilion at 34, Siraj continued his dominance, dismissing Marco Jansen with two in-dippers and leaving the all-rounder befuddled with a well-executed leg-cutter.
With stellar figures of 5/9 in 8 overs, Siraj earned an encore from Captain Rohit Sharma. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t disappoint, claiming yet another wicket, this time of Kyle Verreynne.

Had it been up to Rohit, Siraj might have bowled an endless spell, but caution prevailed, ending the first spell at 6/15, pushing South Africa towards one of their worst home Test performances.
With that, Siraj, the standout performer with the ball, etched his name into the record books by becoming the first Indian player to secure a six-wicket haul in the opening session of a Test match.
