Picture this: you’re at an airport, surrounded by the usual duty-free stores offering products like alcohol, tobacco, perfume, cosmetics, electronics, clothing, and a myriad of other items. It’s a familiar scene, right? But imagine stumbling upon something completely out of the ordinary—a matrimony store. Yes, you read that correctly.
Chennai Airport has taken the concept of airport shopping to an entirely new level with the introduction of a Bharat Matrimony store. This quirky addition has sparked a wave of surprise and amusement across the internet, turning a routine airport visit into a potential match-making opportunity.

A photo of the Bharat Matrimony store at Chennai Airport was shared on the social media platform ‘X’ by a user who captioned it, “Genuinely want insights behind having a Bharat matrimony counter at an airport.” The picture quickly went viral, igniting a flurry of reactions from netizens. The image showed a fully operational matrimonial store amidst the usual array of shops, prompting many to wonder about the rationale behind its location.

The responses were as varied as they were humorous. One user quipped, “No one has time nowadays. Why waste time in an airport. Finish the marriage while waiting.” Another chimed in with a clever pun, “They took the quote Love is in the air literally.” Others speculated more practically, suggesting the store was targeting high-income individuals, and niche customers, and offering quick engagements while waiting to board.
“Flight se utar te hi passenger ko shaadi ka khayaal aa jaaye toh! Risk nahi le sakte na,” one user humorously noted, implying that the store could cater to passengers who might suddenly feel inspired to get married upon landing.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the matrimony store at Chennai Airport has captured public attention. Back in 2023, an ‘X’ user named @Aarsun shared a similar picture of the “Elite Matrimonial” store at the same airport. She humorously noted, “Lol, MAA airport doesn’t have a pharmacy/a convenience store in case of emergencies, but look what I found.” Her post highlighted the peculiar prioritization of a matrimony store over more conventional airport amenities, further fueling the online discussion.
