YouTube personality Steven Schapiro is famous for making people smile with his random acts of kindness, public pranks and social experiments. On his self-titled YouTube channel, he has over 3 million subscribers. In a recent video, Schapiro dedicated an episode to tipping local restaurant owners $500 each in cash. He visited taco spots, bagel shops and burger joints with a simple goal — to support local businesses and put a smile on someone’s face.
His first stop was a local taco spot. After indulging in what he called the “best tacos he’s ever had," Schapiro praised the owner for her food and the ambience before giving her a $500 tip. Her smile of disbelief said it all.
Next, Schapiro stopped by a burger joint. He chatted with the owner, looking like an everyday customer. Then, after finishing off his burger, he surprised the owner with a $500 tip. At first, the owner didn’t know how big the tip was going to be. When she saw the figure, she hesitated, trying to refuse. “It’s too much," she told Schapiro. But he insisted, mentioning that it was to support her business. Touched by his kind words, she accepted the sum and burst out in tears.
Schapiro then visited a food truck, where he approached the owner with the same proposition. This time, things didn’t go as planned. The owner, while thankful for Schapiro’s generous act of kindness, turned down the money and suggested Schapiro donate it to someone else in need. In his video, Schapiro praised the food truck owner for his selfless response
But Schapiro didn’t just enjoy the local cuisine, he kept stopping at more places, sharing the love and surprising each and every restaurant owner who couldn’t believe their eyes. Schapiro made sure to let everyone know that this wasn’t just about eating, it was all about supporting hardworking people too (and getting some killer food while at it).
