In the video shared by a food vlogger, a vendor can be seen preparing jalebis that are black in colour.

A meal surely feels incomplete with a delicious dessert at the end. For those who love Indian sweets, there are surely plenty of choices. From an appetising bowl of kheer to halwas and many more over-the-counter sweets sold in shops, there is something for everyone. While there is a wide range of choices, some sweets are a common favourite, such as jalebi. One can never go wrong with this crispy, tangled sweet dipped in sugar syrup unless they decide to experiment. Recently, a sweet seller made a variation of this popular dessert, which had been termed “black jalebi’ and received a mixed response from the foodies.

In the video shared by a food vlogger, a vendor can be seen making jalebis that are black in colour. Though the procedure for producing the jalebi is the same, this variant varies in thickness and colour. In the clip, the vendor creates many spirals in a pan filled with heated oil. Soon, the jalebis become dark, and the vendor flips them over. At last, he takes them and soaks them in sugar syrup. The user who shared the clip wrote in the caption, “Comment karke batao ye jalebi black kyu hai!”

Soon after being posted, the video went viral, and several comments poured in. While many claimed that the vendor had burned the jalebis, a few were able to determine the explanation for their dark hue.

Some users said, “Bhai jala di hai tune jalebi,” “Ise black nahi over fried bolte hai.” A user pointed out that it was ‘Overcooked’ while another stated, “Colour dekh k hi khane ka mann nahi ho raha.

However, there were some who claimed that it was a widely popular variant of jalebi made of paneer or khoya and not maida (refined flour) which is commonly seen in shops. A user said, “Its mawa jalebi. Not the usual maida jalebi,” another explained, “Milk solids turn black when fried like gulab jamun, Its paneer jalebi.” An individual mentioned, “Ye Bengali sweet hai or ese chana jalebi bolte hai.” Many also said that it is the same procedure as a famous sweet kala jamun.
