People often come across loose notes lying here and there on the road. Some of them even claim them as their own, and call themselves lucky to have come across this accidental money. This 13-year-old Chinese boy is an exception. He found a bag filled with cash on the street and took the money to the police, rather than keeping it for his family. The boy found 1,58,000 yuan (Rs 18.45 lakh) on the street. Yang Xuan’s family, who are from Jiangsu province in eastern China, have been struggling to make ends meet since his father was hospitalised after a cerebral haemorrhage. On December 3, Yang was walking home along with his mother, Zhu Xiaorong when he noticed a white bag lying next to a stone slab. He opened the bag to look at what was in it, but did not expect what he saw.
Speaking with Jiangsu TV, Yang said that he did not expect there to be such a large sum of money inside the bag. Despite the financial condition at home, he tried to catch the owner who had just left on a bicycle, but the man was at a huge speed and Yang could not catch him.
The boy then told his mother that the owner of the bag must be in a hurry and he may need the money to save a life, just like his father and asked her to call the police. The police were quick to reach the spot and Yang followed the officer to the police station to file the case. They then tracked down the bag’s owner with the help of the police.
According to the South China Morning Post, Yang’s school learned of the good deed and held a ceremony to honour him, with a police officer saluting Yang.
The selflessness was more appreciated because the family is currently having some financial issues and the local TV channels even showed Yang’s father’s condition who is lying on a sick bed, unable to move on his own. Despite such circumstances, Yang did not consider keeping the money and instead made all the efforts to find the rightful owner of the bag.
