You must have heard cases of parents pressuring their children to study. As the board exams come closer, restrictions on playing outdoor games, watching TV and other things often occur, with the hope of having their kids invest more time in studies. However, a couple in China differs from the traditional way of education. Due to the delay in their son’s admission to the public primary school, the couple took their six-year-old son for a nationwide study tour after selling their car and flat. The family travels in a camper van. Henan TV City Channel reported they have travelled to at least ten provinces and the tour is ongoing. The news story of this family has gone viral now. The couple hails from Henan province in Central China.

As per the report of South China Morning Post (SCMP), the minimum age of the child should be six years to get admitted to the government primary school in China. The child was just nine days short to get to the 2023 session. Instead of choosing a private school that would allow Mangguo to start, Yang Qiang (father) and his wife delayed his admission to public primary school for a year. In such a situation, they planned to take their child on a learning tour for a year. They are now using this time to travel, teach and spend quality time with the child. “Sometimes being slow is going fast,” Yang said. The father believes that if parents can be the best parents then their children will grow to be the best.

While listing the advantages of travel learning over bookish knowledge, the couple said that schooling is studying from books while travelling is absorbing knowledge from the world.

“Travelling is reading books without words. When you see and know more, your vision will become bigger,” said Yang as quoted by SCMP. They have sold their savings and money from selling a car and flat to support a one-year world tour. The positive attitude of these parents towards schooling and learning is now winning the hearts of the netizens. The family has also stated that they do not know when the family tour will come to an end as they are having fun and learning at the same time.
