Bengaluru Man Claims Rickshaw Drivers' 'Goon Behaviour' Threatened His Rapido Rides, Police Respond
Bengaluru man said auto rickshaw drivers exhibited 'goon behaviour' outside Jalahalli metro station, police issues statement.

A man in Bengaluru brought forward auto rickshaw drivers’ “goon behaviour” after claiming that those outside Jalahalli metro station forcefully stopped him from using Rapido bike taxis on Saturday evening. A weather enthusiast, who operates the Karnataka Weather handle on ‘X’, alleged that the drivers verbally abused him and coerced him into cancelling three bike rides.

In his account on X, the man narrated that he initially booked a bike taxi via Rapido on Saturday evening outside the metro station. The ride was on an electric bike, and upon the rider’s arrival, auto drivers in the vicinity began hurling abuses at him and drove him away. “Realising that the electric bike taxi was banned in the city, I booked another ride via Rapido, and this time I got a Honda bike which is not electric,” he detailed. “When he came to pick me up, the auto drivers again forcefully asked him to cancel the ride and didn’t allow me to take the ride.”

Undeterred, he checked news articles regarding the ban on electric bike taxis and booked another ride on Rapido. “This time I was ready with my mobile to take pictures and videos of the auto goons. But when the rider came and we were about to leave, they came back, forcefully made me get off the bike, and started abusing us. I told them only electric bike taxis are banned but not the normal ones. They said, ‘Don’t talk rules to us… we know better than you.’ They didn’t allow me to capture the videos and pictures,” recounted the weatherman.

Consequently, he appealed to the Bengaluru Police, the city traffic police, and the Jalahalli traffic police to investigate the matter. In response to the post, the Bengaluru Police requested him to share his details via DM.

However, the public outcry against the escalating incidents of auto rickshaw drivers’ aggression in the city was evident, with one commenter in the section sharing, “I agree, it’s the same at Silk board flyover. I observed it a few years ago. I have seen many Auto drivers misbehaving with women in the city. Somehow I believe there’s a disparity that’s creeping in. Bangalore is somehow becoming unsafe, lots of creepy stuff happening.”

“This is very much regular in Bangalore Recently, my friends and I also experienced this at first auto guy asked us to cancel cab and said he’ll ride us at same cost so we after reaching upon our destination he charged double amount of ola cab (600) and he abused all of us,” expressed another.
