Popular messaging service WhatsApp is reportedly working on some new and useful features for its app that are expected to roll out soon in the future. Spotted in recent beta versions of the app on iOS and Android, a new Wallpaper feature will allow users to select different backgrounds for different chats depending on the theme. Notably, this feature is not enabled in the beta either and is expected to be enabled for certain beta users in the future.
The new feature, as reported by WABetaInfo, was seen on the WhatsApp v2.20.199.5 beta for Android and will apparently ask users to download the WhatsApp Wallpaper app if they try to choose a default wallpaper in the app. An official WhatsApp app, it is said to offer various Wallpapers for the messaging platform, but of course, will only be of any use once the feature is enabled on WhatsApp.
Another update, that seems way more useful, is said to be in the works. The Storage Usage section is expected to receive an overhaul that offers information about the storage used by various media files shared on WhatsApp. If you are an active WhatsApp then you know the sheer amount of media shared on the messaging app on a daily basis. The suggested cleanup option is going to make its way to the app that will list forwarded and large files in a thumbnail view giving users a better way to manage and delete media to free up space on their phones. Just like the Wallpapers feature, this one is also not enabled for beta users yet, but it should be available soon.
