New Delhi: Microsoft announced yesterday that its next operating system, Windows 10, will be available worldwide on July 29.
The latest OS which packs in it a new Edge browser and support Dolby Audio among other features will be offered as a free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users who have an authentic version of the software.
However, users running the counterfeit versions of the software will have to shell up to $199 for the authentic Windows 10 version, Ars Technica report notes.
Earlier Microsoft had announced that it will be offering the new OS for free to all users, whether they run the original version or a fake one. However, the company changed its stance and announced that it will keep the status non-genuine and unsupported for systems running counterfeit versions of the software.
It is expected that the Windows 10 Home edition will have an estimated price of $119, while the Pro version will cost $199. If you want to upgrade from Home to Pro, you will be charged $99.
Microsoft said new PCs and tablets running Windows 10 will go on sale July 29, while Windows 10 for other devices such as smartphones would be available later this year.
