New Delhi: Google recently sent out media invites for its September 29 event when it is highly anticipated to unveil new devices running its latest Android Marshmallow software along with other new products.
As the search giant gears up to finally unwrap its awaited ‘new treats and s’more’ , we bring to you a roundup of all that Google could announce at tomorrow’s event in San Francisco.
New Nexus smartphones
For long, Google is rumoured to be working with two manufacturers- Huawei and LG- for its next Nexus smartphones. While the one manufactured by Huawei will be dubbed the Nexus 6, the one manufactured by LG will be called the Nexus 5.
Both the new Nexus smartphones will be the first set of smartphones running the newest Android M (Marshmallow) software by Google, and feature fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C reversible port for charging and output. The smartphones will come with 3 GB of RAM.
The Huawei-made Nexus 6 is rumoured to come with a 5.7-inch screen. However, sources also point at two different sizes currently being tested by Huawei - a 5.5-inch display and a 5.7-inch display. It is unclear which size would exactly make it to the final design.
It will measure roughly 159.4mm high and 78.3mm wide (including side buttons). It will be also 6.6mm thick but 8.5mm at its thickest point. Google is also rumoured to be launching the Huawei-Nexus in 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB storage variants, which would mark the launch of the first-ever Nexus smartphone in 128 GB.
The LG-made Nexus 5 with a 5.2-inch display, is rumoured to have a 2K resolution display, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and a Snapdragon 808 processor. It is expected that a 2700mAh battery will power the LG device. It is further likely to have a 13 megapixel Sony-made IMX278 sensor with optical image stabilisation, combined with a 5 megapixel sensor at the front.
Leaked images of the LG-made Nexus 5 show the device featuring rounded edges and two grilles at the top and bottom, suggesting front-facing speakers. It is expected to be available in three colours - Charcoal Black, Ice Blue, and Quartz White.
It is likely to be competitively priced as it won’t be furnished with top-of-the-line specs and Google is unlikely to repeat its Nexus 6 pricing mistake.
Google Chromecast
It is also expected that Google will unveil the second-generation Chromecast dongle that will come packed with a range of new features including feeds for the device's main screen, improved WiFi, and a new feature termed "Fast Play".
Google is also speculated to introduce Motorola-inspired dongle, dubbed "Chromecast Audio", which could allow a Chromecast device to plug directly into any speaker by way of auxiliary cord.
Leaked images hint that the device would have a new form factor and would be available in multiple colours.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Announced at the Google I/O conference, the next version of Google’s popular OS, Android Marshmallow or Android M, is also expected to be introduced at tomorrow’s event.
Powering the new Nexus smartphones, the new version of Android does not introduce any revolutionary functions though several hundred updates allow for better stability and make the phone easier to use. The idea is to optimise the smartphone's battery life as well as the security parameters of applications and their permission to gain temporary access to the camera, microphone or GPS function.
Android Pay
Google could also use the event to announce the public roll out of Android Pay, its mobile payment solution that requires saving credit card details on your phone, along the lines of Apple Pay.
