Microsoft services have affected AI services like ChatGPT along with Bing Search, Copilot and more on Thursday. The outage has been reported across the globe which seems to have lasted for around an hour.
Most people are using Bing Search these days because of the AI integration via Copilot and since the same APIs are powering other functions like ChatGPT and DuckDuckGo, one major outage is enough to spiral the whole ecosystem.
Users from India have also reported problems accessing these sites, and via Downdetector.in, we could ascertain that most of the report spike happened after 1:30 PM IST on Thursday. During the time of writing, Bing Search was available to us in the form of a grey coloured page but searching for items gives you the details which eventually came back into its true form.
However, we did notice the same page showing the message, “It’s not you, it’s us,” which implies Microsoft did face an outage earlier in the day that many people complained about on social media with posts like these:
Is #DuckDuckGo down?or is this memory holed?
I cannot get search results, never happened before.

Microsoft has not officially commented on the issue but it seems most of the services are now back and available to users across the globe.
Outages like these also tell us that having one entity have control over these many applications isn’t ideal, especially when the trigger effect results in all the services going down simultaneously for no fault of their own. The biggest casualty of this problem is ChatGPT 4 AI chatbot, forcing millions to rely on Google Search for their work and personal reasons.
ChatGPT Plus is the paid version of the AI chatbot that accesses the internet to give you the results, but with the main API being down, the subscribers also had to wait for the feature to come alive.
