New Delhi: LG has finally announced the launch of its X Screen smartphone in India. Priced at Rs 12,990, the phone will be available exclusively on an Indian e-commerce site from July 20. This is for the first time that LG has decided to sell a smartphone exclusively via the e-commerce route.

The highlight of the phone is its dual-screen display. The X screen comes with two screens. The primary display measures 4.93 inches, while the Second Screen measures 1.76 inches.

The primary screen is a standard screen that works like the one on other phones. The Second Screen, which is located right on top of the main screen, is an always-on display that allows users to check basic information such as time, date and notifications without having to wake up the phone.

In addition, the Second Screen also houses recent applications for easy access along with facility to receive calls without interruptions on the main screen.

LG had introduced its Second Screen feature for the first time in the LG V10. And the presence of the Second Screen on the X Screen phone makes it the first mid-tier smartphone to come with this functionality.

Other specifications of the dual-SIM X Screen phone include a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset paired with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB ROM, 2300 mAh Battery, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, 4G LTE, 13 megapixel and an 8 megapixel front camera. The phone will be available in two colours - black and white.

The X Screen competes with the likes of Moto G4 Plus, Lenovo Zuk Z1, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the Le Eco Le 2. While all these devices come with more or less similar features, the dual-screen display on the X Screen makes it stand out in the already crowded under-Rs 15K budget smartphone market.

The X Screen is the only phone in this price segment to come with two screens. And its unique design is what gives it an edge over the competition. Having said that, a unique display on the phone alone cannot define its success.

We will soon be out with our review of the LG X Screen.
