Instagram has rolled out a new feature that allows users to share up to 20 pieces of media (including photos and videos) in a carousel post, which is double the previous limit of 10. The feature is rolling out globally. The carousel feature was first introduced to users in 2017.
The feature comes as a big boost for the creators, allowing them to share a more detailed outfit post, a travel diary or just a collection of memes with their viewers. More media indicates more opportunities to engage audiences, create stories and promote products. For them, this move represents an opportunity to be more creative and provide more diverse information.
Sharing the feature on Instagram, the company’s head Adam Mosseri wrote, “You can add up to 20 audio tracks to a single reel, giving you more creative freedom with your content. You can align your audio with text, stickers, and clips while editing it on Instagram. When you do this, you’ll also create your unique audio mix that fans can save and reuse. Give it a try and let me know what you think.”
However, some users might not like the new feature as not everyone will be interested in scrolling through more than ten slides of a user's post, especially when the app currently contains so many other content forms such as reels, stories and notes.
The update comes a day after Instagram revealed that is making Views the primary metric across all its formats including photos, reels, views, stories and carousels. The move will allow creators to track the same metric across all of their content.
Meta has gradually added more features to the Instagram carousel function, such as the option to combine music with your slides and collaborative posts that allow several users to contribute content.
Besides this, Instagram recently rolled out another feature that allowed users to add more than one music track to the reels. The company revealed that the multi-audio tracks feature on reels will let users add up to 20 tracks to a single reel post.
