Huawei, perhaps, had not seen it coming. The company recently posted a promo photo on its Google+ page in an attempt to flaunt the camera quality of its latest P9 phone that features a dual-lens camera co-engineered with Germany's Leica. But to everyone's surprise, it was discovered that the photo had not been taken with the Huawei phone, and instead was the result of a DSLR camera.

While the caption directly didn't say that the photo had been taken with the P9 phone, it clearly suggested so. But the crisp details and light balance in the image were what raised suspicion about it. This, in turn, led to some digging into the matter.
After going deeper into the details, Android Police revealed that the photo was taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens - a combination that costs around $4,500.
As Google+ makes the EXIF metadata of photos uploaded to its site, it was easier for Android Police to find out details. Perhaps, the person who had uploaded that photo didn't know about it.
The company later removed the photo and issued a statement clarifying that its intention was never to mislead viewers.
The statement reads, "It has recently been highlighted that an image posted to our social channels was not shot on the Huawei P9. The photo, which was professionally taken while filming a Huawei P9 advert, was shared to inspire our community. We recognise though that we should have been clearer with the captions for this image. It was never our intention to mislead. We apologise for this and we have removed the image."
