Google Rolls Out New Feature Called Ask Photos: Here's What It Does
Google Photos is getting this useful AI feature powered by Gemini in select regions to help you identify and search for images with contextual prompts.

Google has introduced a new feature called “Ask Photos”. With the help of this feature, users may search for photos and videos in their Google Photos using more natural, descriptive language. This is made possible by Google’s Gemini AI models. Google. Instead of just searching for people, pets or places, users can now describe specific scenes or situations, and Google Photos will deliver the most relevant results.

During the Google I/O 2024 event in May of this year, the company introduced its new Ask Photos feature. According to a recent Google blog post, the new capability will first be provided to a restricted number of customers living in the United States.

Ask Photos: What Is It All About And How Does It Work?

Ask Photos is a sophisticated search tool that lets users connect with their photo collections more conversationally. It expands on the standard keyword-based searches that Google Photos has provided for years. Ask Photos allows you to ask complex questions or describe scenes to uncover specific memories.

For example, if you want to find a photo of yourself and a friend laughing at an event, you may just enter or say, “Judi and me laughing,” and the feature will return related photographs, reports say. It can also interpret more specific questions, such as “Kayaking on a lake surrounded by mountains” or “Emma painting in the backyard.” This makes it much easier to search through enormous photo collections for exactly what you’re looking for, reports add.

Ask Photos uses Google’s potent Gemini AI models to decipher the context of your images and the objects, people, and places they contain. The function can identify the most significant individuals in your life, your favourite pastimes or particular places you’ve been.

In addition, add more details to the search to make it more specific if the feature doesn’t get it properly the first time. Ask Photos will modify its search to get more relevant results if you mention specific details like the name of a friend or the season in the picture.

Ask Photos also comes in handy for things like trip summaries and selecting the best pictures for a shared album. When you want to quickly look through hundreds of images from an event to pick the highlights, this is extremely helpful.
