New Delhi: In its latest attempt to make travelling easier for users, Google has tied up with taxi aggregators Ola and Uber in India. This follows an update in Google Maps which now includes a dedicated tab to provide users with information for cab services. Also users will be able to compare all commuting options right from within the Google Maps app.
"If you are looking for a cab service in major cities in India, you'll be able to choose from Uber or Ola cab services. If you have a provider's app installed, you’ll be able to see fare estimates and pick up times and if a car is available near you. Uber users will be able to choose from uberGO and uberX services, while Ola customers can choose from Ola Mini, Ola Micro and Ola Sedan options," said Google in a blog post.
Once you select a service, you will be taken directly to the Uber or Ola app for you to request your ride with one tap.
Having all your commuting options in one place makes it easier to make quick comparisons about the best route and get an estimated fare. It will also show cab availability when viewing the map in walking or transit directions.
Google is rolling out this new feature on the Maps app for Android starting Wedesday. It will soon be rolled out for iOS.
In October 2015, Google had introduced the Delhi Public Transport Offline app to make it easier for people to access public transport. The app is built into Google Maps and lets users access transit direction even on slow connections. Direction and time table information for Delhi Metro and buses are also be available offline on the app.
