During its ‘Wonderlust’ event, Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. While both watches offer numerous upgrades compared to their predecessors, these updates seem largely iterative compared to the last-generation.
However, the watches do offer improved specifications when compared to the previous generation. Apple now provides more storage capacity for its Apple Watches—64GB compared to the 32GB available in last year’s Apple Watch Series 8. This information is confirmed by the specifications listed on Apple’s website. One direct benefit of this upgrade—we believe—could be the ability to install more apps, store more music offline, and make it easier to update your watch.
Other notable changes include the Apple Watch Series 9 featuring a brighter display than the Apple Watch Series 8—now supporting 2000 nits of peak brightness—notably double that of the Apple Watch Series 8, and comes with a minimum brightness of just 1 nit.
Additionally, both the Ultra 2 and Series 9 watches are powered by the S9 chipset and the second-generation ultra-wideband chip—enabling on-device Siri and a new gesture-based feature called ‘Double Tap.’ Further, these watches will run on WatchOS 10, which will allow for several new features like the new Smart Stack, new Compass Waypoints and new Apple Maps abilities.
With these new watches, Apple has also made the decision to stop offering leather bands in favour of a carbon-neutral watch and has introduced a new material called ‘FineWoven.’
Both new Apple Watches will be available for pre-order later today in India and will be officially released on September 22. The Apple Watch Series 9 starts at Rs 41,900, while the Apple Watch Ultra 2 retails at Rs 89,900.
