The next level of wireless transmission standard is here. Bluetooth 5.0 is coming for your devices in the year 2016. Here's what you need to know about the new wireless technology.
1. It's Fast
Bluetooth 5.0 will be twice as fast as Bluetooth 4.2. It promises a maximum theoretical throughput of 2Mbps. In real world usage you might not get such speeds but anything close is good enough than what you get today on your devices while using Bluetooth technology. It also gets an increase in data broadcasting capacity by 800 per cent.
2. It's Got a Range Bump
The range of Bluetooth 5.0 is now four times the range of the earlier version. In theory it can work even from a range of 300 meters. That will obviously depend on the kind of hardware that you are using, but if you have a big house and want to stream music to your bluetooth speaker form outside it's possible now.
3. It's IoT Ready
Internet of Things is already growing worldwide with more and more connected devices launching. Bluetooth 5.0 is now IoT ready. There are now under-the-hood tweaks and optimisations to provide better performance with connected devices. It will also consume less power now from devices.
4. Upgrade Time
Bluetooth 5.0 will require a hardware upgrade to work to its full capacity. The old chips on your devices will work with Bluetooth 5.0 but you won't get many features and that extra bot of performance. Some smartphones in 2016 might roll out with Bluetooth 5.0 but mostly you'll see it in full action only in 2017.
Does Bluetooth Matter?
Bluetooth is used in 8.2 billion devices around the the world from smartphones and laptops to speakers, beacons and cars. So yes, it does matter especially with Internet of Things taking the center-stage in our daily life. Connected devices are the future and wireless technology is hassle free and Bluetooth still is the center of wireless transmission technology between devices.
