Sanya Malhotra’s first solo lead film, Pagglait, dropped this week on Netflix. A comedy on the surface, the film exposes societal expectations from a woman, how it is predefined how she should behave in a certain situation, through the character of Sandhya, who is unable to cry on her husband’s death.
Manoj Bajpayee is back in a tough cop role with ZEE5’s new film Silence: Can You Hear It. He plays ACP Avinash Verma who has to solve the murder case of an influential judge’s daughter. The film marks Prachi Desai’s return to acting 5 years after Azhar (2016).

Pagglait (Netflix)
Sanya Malhotra brings her innocent charm to Pagglait, which she plays a young widow Sandhya whose husband has died but she is unable to grieve. So much so that when her mother wails, Sandhya asks her to stop crying. This is Sanya’s first film as a solo protagonist, although she is supported by other actors like Sayani Gupta, Shruti Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana. The film, directed by Umesh Bist, is a comedy with an undercurrent of exposing societal norms and judgements. This Netflix film is a satire on the conventional ways of dealing with grief, how a woman is told she should ‘behave’ at her partner’s funeral.
Silence: Can You Hear It (ZEE5)
The Hindi thriller film is written and directed by Aban Bharucha Deohans and stars Manoj Bajpayee, Prachi Desai and Arjun Mathur. The story of the film revolves around the mysterious disappearance of a woman. Manoj Bajpayee plays ACP Avinash Verma who has been given the responsibility to investigate the murder case of an influential judge’s daughter. Accompanying him on the case is Prachi Desai and Sahil Vaid. The probe leads ACP Verma and his team to a politician’s home. Made In Heaven’s Arjun Mathur plays the politician. The film also stars Prachi Desai in a comeback to acting after 5 years.
Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare (Amazon Prime Video)
Zakir Khan is back with the new season of Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare, three years after it first hit the streaming service. This Zakir Khan creation is an Indian comedy series starring Vyom Sharma, Kumar Varun, Alka Amin, Zakir Hussain along with Zakir himself in pivotal roles. The story revolves around the life of Ronny Bhaiyya (Zakir Khan) who leads a double life. To the world, he is the nephew of the MLA (Vidhayak) and likes to think of himself as a Jann Neta while on the other hand, at home, he is a jobless and irresponsible 26-year-old to his family. The show takes you on a laughter ride as you watch Ronny getting stuck in multiple situations because of the big lie that precedes him.
OK Computer (Disney+ Hotstar)
Helmed by the makers of the cult films Ship of Theseus and Tumbbad, Hotstar Specials OK Computer is an unconventional series that focuses on the battle between ideologies – for and against technology and poses the larger question of ‘Has AI which was created by humans, and which humans came to rely on, now stopped being a boon and has instead begun to be annoying, overpowering or harmful? Featuring an ensemble cast including Radhika Apte, Vijay Varma, Jackie Shroff, Rasika Duggal among others, the 6-part series has been produced and Co-written by Anand Gandhi.
7 Kadam (Eros Now)
Directed by Mohit Jha, this series, set in the football-crazed state of West Bengal, is an emotional tale about father and son. The father wants his son to be the number one football player in the world. But with the generation gap between them and diverse ideologies, will all the teachings of the father as a coach and as a guide help the son to make the right decisions? Ronit Roy plays the father, who was an aspiring football player but found his dreams shattered after breaking his leg. His son, played by Amit Sadh, pursues football as well and hopes to achieve greatness.
