A recent post on the micro-blogging site ‘X’ highlighted the frustrations of an individual struggling to find a home in Pune due to religious considerations. Rizwan, a Muslim man, expressed his despair, revealing that he almost gave up on his dream of securing a residence in the city. He criticised the absence of cross-religion lease agreements, which hindered his quest for a suitable living space.
In the viral post, Rizwan stated, “Seriously gave up on the dream of finding something called home in Pune! Explored all Pune, most gated societies don’t do cross religion lease agreements. People telling me even if I get one they will throw me out in a few months.”

Continuing his rant, he shared, “I made a conscious decision that I won’t leave this country. Startup culture here has just started here. But every once a while this stupid s*** happens and I don’t blame anyone who left India getting sick of this.”
The post gained widespread attention, prompting reactions from various individuals. While many expressed empathy, some urged caution against generalising the entire country based on one experience. One response read, “Hey buddy, so sorry to hear this. Don’t colour the entire country with the same brush. Tier 2 and self – proclaimed tier -1 cities of India may look a little rigid at times. Move to a bigger city and use that for your startup.”
Another commenter expressed surprise and advised, “This is surprising. Hope u did not tweeted based on few of your instances. Because everyone have one or other this kind of experience including bachelor’s get rejection bcoz they are unmarried even for renting place.”
A third individual suggested a different perspective, stating, “I think there is no problem in getting a rented home anywhere in India. The thing is people will enquire about you and they have the right to do so. Why are you blaming them. I am staying in Guj. and got so many questions like a Job interview. But I didn’t mind it. You should accept it openly dear @rizwan2000_rm.”
