Kolkata: Demanding resignation of Mamata Banerjee as Chief Minister of West bengal in view of the CBI's questioning of her party MPs in the Saradha scam, the BJP on Thursday said that it would submit a memorandum to the state Governor asking her to step down on moral ground.
"We will submit a memorandum to the Governor demanding resignation of the chief minister. When she was in the NDA government she had resigned after the Tehelka scam on moral ground. Now TMC Rajya Sabha MPs and party leaders are being named in the scam. Has she shunned morality?" BJP National secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said.
Singh, also the party's central observer for Bengal, told a press conference that from tomorrow his party would start a "Saradha chit-fund scam andolan" wherein party workers would demonstrate and gherao police stations. State Congress president Adhir Chowdhury had also recently made a similar demand for her stepping down from office till the CBI gave her a clean chit.
Singh said, "Investigating agencies like ED and CBI are now putting all the dots together". On the state health minister Chandrima Bhattacharya leading a demonstration outside the CBI office at CGO complex, he said, "Since TMC MPs and leaders are getting sick following interrogation, it is natural that the health minister should be there".
The BJP leader demanded that the chief minister make a statement on media reports that money from the Saradha chit fund scam was allegedly used to fund anti-national activities. "If terrorist activities got funded and supported with Saradha money, then it is a very serious issue," he observed.
