New Delhi: On the birth anniversary of Bal Thackeray on Wednesday his son Uddhav is set to formally take charge of Shiv Sena. The Sena national executives will meet on Wednesday to anoint him and initiate son, Aditya Thackeray into the party fold. There are two other vacant spots which are also expected to be filled with, one of them going to Neelam Ghore - who will then be the party's first woman 'Neta'.

The Sena national executive meeting is all set to take place meet at 11am to see intra-party elections, membership renewals setting the 2014 election agenda and most importantly, officially announcing the new team of the Sena.

Uddhav, who is now the executive president will be made the party President and his son Aditya will be formally inducted as a Sena neta.

Earlier, amid reports of power tussles within Shiv Sena, Uddhav said that he will take the party "one step ahead". "I am Balasaheb's son. He brought the party to this level. I assure you that I will take Shiv Sena one step ahead than my father," Uddhav said at function in Mumbai.

Stating that Shiv Sena was playing a role in the national politics too, he reminded that the party opposed the visit by Pakistani women cricket team and also the participation of players from that country in Hockey League, in the wake of killing of two Indian soldiers at LoC.

Uddhav also defended Mumbai police inspector Sujata Patil whose poem on riots at Azad Maidan last year has sparked off a controversy because of its tone. "Why Patil could not have the same freedom of speech which the two girls from Palghar were supposed to have while opposing the shut-down of Mumbai on Facebook after Bal Thackeray's death," he asked.
