There Will be Riots Over Ram Mandir, Predicts Raj Thackeray as Fight Between Sena and BJP Intensifies

Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday flayed the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance over their Ram Mandir narrative and ‘predicted’ riots in the country over the issue.

Talking to reporters at an event in Nashik, the MNS chief said, “There will be riots in the country over Ram Mandir and the BJP-Shiv Sena will cause them."

Mocking the BJP's defeat in the recent Assembly polls, the Thackeray cousin said that the result was just the display of people's anger against PM Narendra Modi.

"These five state elections reflected the country's frustration against PM Modi. The BJP will face the same destiny in Maharashtra as well. In fact, they will be routed here and the Shiv Sena’s hope of staying in news by bickering with the BJP won't help," he said.

"Nobody else has been able to hamper the country's interest so much in such a short duration of time. The treasury has completely dried up and the government has no money for the subsidies and waivers that were promised," said Thackeray, who was once an ardent Modi supporter.

Raj Thackeray began his Nashik tour five days ago after his court appearance in Igadpuri for a 2008 case, where MNS workers had beaten up a North Indian youth who had come to Maharashtra to appear for Railway Board exams. Thackeray was granted bail by the court.

Thackeray's visit to several places over the last five days gathered massive public support where people spilled on streets to see him.

Calling the Devendra Fadnavis government “a government of liars", he said, "The government had boasted of building 1.20 lakh wells. Then why is there drought in the state today? Where is all that money? This government is worse than the previous government."
