Tamil Nadu Assembly elections: No fresh invitation given to Vijaykant by Karunanidhi, says Stalin
Vijaykant, the actor-turned-politician, had recently announced his party's decision to fight the state elections alone.

Chennai: DMK leader MK Stalin on Tuesday asserted that no fresh invitation has been extended by party supremo M K Karunanidhi to Vijaykant's DMDK party for the forthcoming Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.

Vijaykant, the actor-turned-politician, had recently announced his party's decision to fight the state elections alone.

Referring to Monday's remarks by Karunanidhi to reporters in this regard, Stalin said the party chief had only referred to the earlier invitation extended to DMDK and that it had "not been understood properly."

"Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) had earlier already extended an invitation to DMDK which is the fact. To accept that invitation or not is DMDK's right.... the invitation stays. But it has been reported as if there is a new invitation," Stalin told reporters.

"Even then, no talks were held, now also no talks are being held (with DMDK). That is the truth," Stalin said. Karunanidhi had yesterday indicated that talks were on with DMDK and that he had not lost confidence that Vijaykant would join hands with DMK for the elections.

"Happening", he had told reporters when asked if talks were on with DMDK.

"I have not lost my confidence (that DMDK would join the DMK-led front)," said Karunanidhi, whose party was among those which have wooed Vijayakant for an alliance.
