Suspended Trinamool Politician Meets BJP, Cong leaders
Ghosh, who was suspended from the party over the Saradha scam, is said to be close friends with Locket Chatterjee.

Kolkata: Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) politician Kunal Ghosh met senior state leaders from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress to discuss the current political situation in West Bengal.

Those present at the ‘chai pe charcha’ included BJP state general secretaries Locket Chatterjee, Sayantan Basu, Congress leaders Soumen Mitra and Arunabha Ghosh. Amitabha Mazumdar, leader of “Jatiawadi Trinamool Congress”, a faction of TMC, was also present in the meeting, which happened on Sunday.

Ghosh, who was suspended from the party over the Saradha scam, is said to be close friends with Chatterjee.

It was a normal conversation over tea. Kunal and Locket are very old friends and therefore we all decided to meet. We mainly discussed the current political, law and order situation under Mamata’s rule,” said Basu, speaking to News18.

Denying any intention of Ghosh joining BJP, Basu said the former praised the party but also said he was not joining BJP.

“He did say that BJP was a ray of hope for many, but he said he was sure of not joining us,” said Basu. Sources in the BJP have, however, said that the meeting seems crucial considering the upcoming panchayat, civic and also Lok Sabha polls.

“There are some senior Congress, TMC leaders who are planning to join BJP. We are going to have our state committee meeting in Burdwan tomorrow and this issue may be discussed with our central party leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya and Shiv Prakash,” BJP sources said.
