SUCI warns Trinamool against cosying up to Cong
SUCI says it will withdraw support to TNC if it tied up with Congress.

Kolkata: The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) on Thursday warned its alliance partner, Trinamool Congress, against linking up with the Congress for the coming Lok Sabha polls.

The SUCI warned the Trinamool Congress not to step into the trap laid by the Congress by withdrawing its candidate for the coming state assembly by-poll in the West Bishnupur constituency.

"We're with the Trinamool Congress and jointly working as alliance partners in the state. We believe that Trinamool will not step into the trap of the Congress in the upcoming Assembly by-election," SUCI State Secretary Pravash Ghosh said.

Earlier, the SUCI had declared it would withdraw support to the Trinamool Congress if the party tied up with the Congress in any form of electoral coalition.

"We've already started working for the by-election in West Bishnupur constituency," Ghosh said.

Ghosh said that the Trinamool Congress would have to maintain equidistance from both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Trinamool Congress and SUCI formed a political alliance in March last year to fight the ruling Left Front (LF) government in West Bengal and the central government's "anti-people" policies.

Raising political speculations, the Congress withdrew its candidate Gazi Mumtazuddin, who was nominated to contest from the seat in the Feb 26 by-poll. The party also announced that it would support the Trinamool Congress in the by-election.

The Trinamool has fielded its youth leader Madan Mitra for the seat.
