Soren acquitted in murder case after 36 years
Ex-Jharkhand chief minister gets reprieve because of lack of evidence.

Giridih, Jharkhand: A court in Giridih on Tuesday acquitted former Jharkhand chief minister Shibu Soren in a 1974 double murder case for lack of evidence.

Additional District Judge (9th-fast track) Mohammad Qasim pronounced the verdict as Soren, chief of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, listened on.

A man called Bahadur Singh filed an FIR on 15th April 1974, accusing Soren of leading a group that allegedly killed Khirodar Singh and Chundi Singh following the slaughter of a goat at Kudko village under Pirtand police station in Giridih district.

A chargesheet was filed in 1978, and Soren was the sole accused after eight others were acquitted in 1986. This was the third murder case in which Soren has been acquitted by different courts.

He walked free in the 1975 Chirrudih massacre case three years ago while a Delhi court acquitted him in the Shashinath Jha murder case in 2007.
