Mumbai: The Mumbai Anti-Terror squad is under tremendous political pressure to make full disclosure of the evidence gathered in Malegaon blast case.
According to sources, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil has reportedly asked ATS to disclose the evidence.
But the Investigating Officer has briefed Patil on the probe and has reportedly asked for more time.
Meanwhile, the ATS has submitted medical reports of the accused to refute allegations they were tortured in custody.
At least three accused in the case had alleged that they were ill treated and physically tortured in police custody.
In an affidavit filed before the Nashik magistrate, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur had alleged that she was tortured while in ATS custody.
She also claimed police illegally detained her for at least 10 days before finally arresting her on Oct 23.
She claimed that she was forced to undergo tests like narco analysis against her wishes.
Similar allegations had been levelled by Dayanand Pande alias Swami Amritanand, and Retired Major Ramesh Upadhyay as well.
Political parties have taken up the issue. The NCP on Wednesday came out in strong support of the ATS.
But the BJP expressed shock over the torture allegations on Tuesday and its leader LK Advani alleged on Wednesday that Maharashtra ATS is "politically motivated".
“I cannot believe that such barbaric treatment has been meted out to a spiritual person, that too, a woman in a country that prides itself on its democracy and rule of law,” he said.
