Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday celebrated five years of the 17th Lok Sabha in his last parliament speech before the 2024 General Elections and said it was a period of reform, performance and transformation as India moved towards ‘big changes’ including a new Parliament building, construction of Ram Temple and many more.
“Everyone used to discuss that there should be a new building of the Parliament. But no decision was taken. It was your (Lok Sabha Speaker) leadership that decided this, too matters forward, held meetings with the government and as a result, the country received this new Parliament building,” the prime minister said at Lok Sabha.
About the inauguration of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, PM Modi said that the Lok Sabha’s resolution on the Ram Temple will give future generations the strength to feel proud of their culture and country’s values.
The government brought a motion on Ram Temple in Upper House and Lower House on Saturday which is the last day of the interim budget session of Parliament.
Prime Minister Modi also remembered the establishment of Sengol by him in the new parliament building.
“This historic move of establishing and celebrating the symbol of Sengol will always connect the posterity to the moments when India gained its independence,” he said.
Modi also reiterated that this year’s Padma awards recognised the achievements and struggles of the transgender community. He also pointed out that people from the transgender community have taken loans under his government’s Mudra scheme and started businesses.
“We have given Padma Awards to transgenders. They have started receiving the benefits of various government schemes that they didn’t before. They are now living lives of respect,” PM Modi said.
