New Delhi: Congress Vice- President Rahul Gandhi will meet the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders of all the states and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs on Saturday. The agenda of the meeting will be to discuss the party's strategy on the Food Security Bill and to promote the bill across the country.
Keen to spread the message of the bill across the country, party President Sonia Gandhi held consultations with 13 chief ministers of all Congress-ruled states on July 13 in which she asked them to expeditiously implement the food security scheme in "letter and spirit" so that "no one sleeps hungry".
Even in the two-day media workshop on July 22 and 23 that Rahul addressed, the programme had a dedicated session on food security. Union ministers Jairam Ramesh and KV Thomas also addressed the workshop.
Rahul's meeting with PCC chiefs and CLP leaders is being held at a time when the party is preparing for the next Lok Sabha polls and is keen to reach out to the people with its populist measures.
In the July 13 meeting also attended by AICC general secretaries and Congress Core Group members, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said bottlenecks, if any, in the implementation of the scheme will be removed.
The deliberations had seen a number of AICC General Secretaries and Chief Ministers raising concerns over poor condition of Public Distribution System (PDS).
A number of Congress states including Delhi and Haryana have announced their intent to implement the scheme from August 20.
A battery of Congress spokespersons moved in various states last week to hold workshops for the PCCs on food security issue and address press conferences at state headquarters.
