New Delhi: After a relatively successful roadshow in Kalkaji constituency, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will hold a mega rally on Thursday. The rally is scheduled yo start at 2:30 PM at Shastri Park in Seelampur constituency of the national capital.

Several senior leaders including Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, Election Campaign Committee chief Ajay Maken and many candidates are expected to attend the rally which aims to checkmate the Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party.

The candidates who are likely to attend are Jile Singh Chauhan (Burari), Veer Singh (Seemapuri), Surender Pal Singh (Timarpur), Vipin Sharma (Rohtas Nagar), Rinku (Gokulpur), Ch Mateen Ahmed (Seelampur), Hasan Ahmed (Mustafabad), Bheesham Sharma (Ghonda), Satanpal Dyma (Karawal Nagar) and Zakir Khan (Babarpur).

Congress candidates from East Delhi constituencies Tarwinder S Marwah (Jungpura), AK Walia (Laxmi Nagar), Asif Mohd Khan (Okhla), Naseeb Singh (Vishwas Nagar), Brahm Pal (Trilokpuri), Bansi Lal (Krishna Nagar), Amrish Singh Gautam (Kondli), Surender Prakash Sharma (Gandhi Nagar), Anil Chaudhury (Patparganj) and Narender Nath (Shahdara) are also expected to be present at the rally.

Most of these seats are dominated by the lower middle class, poorer sections of the society and Muslims who have moved towards the AAP. Rahul's rally is aimed to bring back such voters back into the Congress fold

Rahul's roadshow on Tuesday was the first major Congress campaign in Delhi which will vote to elect a new Assembly on February 7. The roadshow began from the Kalkaji Transit Camp and went around the constituency with over 5,000 people attending the event.

Congress has witnessed a massive downfall since December 2013 polls and experienced its worst ever performance in Lok Sabha elections as it managed to win only 44 seats.

After ruling Delhi for 15 years, the Congress won only 8 seats in the 2013 elections. The Aam Aadmi Party stole the show by winning 28 seats and BJP-SAD won 32 seats.
