New Delhi: Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said he is concerned about the Mullaperiyar dam issue and will look into it after Kerala MPs E Ahmed, Vyalar Ravi, KV Thomas, KC Venugopal and Mullapalli Ramachandran met the Prime Minister over the stalemate with Tamil Nadu.
On Monday, Kerala MPs from across party lines sat on a day-long dharna outside Parliament seeking the Prime Minister's immediate intervention.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu MPs say the Government should wait for the courts to decide on the matter.
Last week, Kerala CM Oomen Chandy has asked for permit to rebuild a new dam citing security concerns over the old one. Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha retorted saying that Kerala was spreading unnecessary panic.
However, Kerala MP Jose K Mani has reiterated the dam is causing serious security concerns.
"In last four months, there have been numbers of earthquakes and water is rushing out, which has made things alarming. We've asked for an out-of-court settlement. Tamil Nadu wants water, we are not against that. This is not for water; the Government of Kerala has said water won't be reduced. They want water and we want safety of our people," said Mani.
