Uma Bharti alleged UPA nominating Pratibha Patil for President's post was part of a conspiracy by Christian missionaries.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janashakti chief Uma Bharti has alleged that the UPA nominating Pratibha Patil for President's post was part of a conspiracy by Christian missionaries and asked Shiv Sena to refrain from supporting her candidature.

In a letter to Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, the fiery sadhvi claimed that possibilities of support for Patil by him was mentioned in a news channel.

Though Patil hailed from Maharashtra, she as Governor had refused to give accent to a Rajasthan government's bill aimed at checking religious conversion, Bharti said in her letter, copy of which was released in Bhopal.

Claiming that support to Patil would harm the cause of Hindutva, the former MP Chief Minister alleged that the Patil's candidature was part of a conspiracy by missionaries promoting religious conversion in the country.

Patil, whose nomination as the frontrunner for the post of President has received both bouquets and brickbats said on Saturday that she has her own independent thinking and people slamming her as mere “rubber stamp” are overlooking her clean record and immense experience in public governance.

Pratibha Patil, whose loyalty to Nehru-Gandhi family was widely perceived to be a major factor in her nomination as UPA-Left Presidential candidate, asserted she would not be a ‘rubber stamp’ President.
