Pally just for rally? TRS denies joining NDA
TRS remains non-committal, says will support anyone in favour of Telangana.

Hyderabad: A day after Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhara Rao attended an NDA rally in Ludhiana, the party on Monday denied reports that it had joined the BJP-led alliance.

TRS senior leader leader N Narasimha Reddy told a news conference here that his party had not joined the National Democratic Alliance but only "declared its support".

He said the TRS stuck to its stand that it would support any political formation at the centre ready to grant separate statehood to the Telangana region.

TRS, which fought last month's Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections in alliance with the four-party 'Mahakutami' or the grand alliance, declared support to NDA as the latter had promised to carve out a separate state within 100 days after coming to power at the centre.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and two Left parties are the other constituents of the Mahakutami. They are also the constituents of the Third Front at the centre.

Brushing aside criticism from the Left parties over TRS' attending the NDA rally, Narasimha Reddy said the party had no pact with Mahakutami that barred it from backing NDA. He also wanted to know if the Third Front had any proposal for formation of Telangana state.

Reddy ruled out support to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), saying it had betrayed the people of Telangana by going back on its promise to create a separate state made before the 2004 elections.
