Pakoda Sellers Can Open Restaurant After 2 Years and Hotel After That: Anandiben Patel
The Madhya Pradesh governor's remarks came as the ruling BJP and opposition Congress in the poll-bound state engaged in a war of words over the Prime Minister's statement that selling 'pakodas' is a viable employment option.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel has jumped into the 'pakoda' controversy that was stoked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and opined that selling fritters can be a good career option if one is "skillful" at it.

Speaking at a public function on Saturday, Patel laid out the career path of one who takes up the profession.

"Making pakodas is quite a skillful job as no one would eat them if they aren't tasty. One who remains in pakoda business for two years could go on to open his own restaurant in the third year and could well have his own hotel within the next few years," she said.

Her remarks came as the ruling BJP and opposition Congress in the poll-bound state engaged in a war of words over the Prime Minister's statement that selling 'pakodas' is a viable employment option.

Congress leaders in the state have made several scathing attacks at the PM and the party's youth wing has held numerous protests by selling 'pakodas' on the streets.

To counter this, BJP members decided to march to the Congress headquarters in Bhopal on Saturday with pakoda sellers in tow. They said that the statements made by Congress leaders were derogatory to the vendors selling the snack.

Soon after the Congress leaders learnt about it, they came out of the party office with red roses in their hands to greet the protesters. Some of the leaders also started frying pakodas on a push cart as they wanted to welcome the protesters with some snacks.

Sensing trouble, the police stopped the BJP procession and this led to a scuffle. BJP spokpesperson Rahul Kothari, who was part of the protest, said that PM had voiced the pain of the weaker and deprived section, but the Congress has decided to mislead the public by twisting his statement.

District Congress president PC Sharma, on the other hand, said that BJP had promised two crore jobs after coming to power, but even the existing jobs have decreased. "The jobless youths and farmers are depressed and are being driven towards suicide," he said.
