'Our Right to Campaign as Politicians': Hemant Soren's Wife Awaits Good News as Kejriwal Gets Relief
Kalpana Soren said the AAP chief’s interim bail was proof of the judiciary understanding the need to safeguard the Constitution

Minutes after the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday, former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana hoped for good news for her spouse too. “Not hopeful, I am pretty sure that we will get the good news very soon,” Kalpana told CNN-News18 in an exclusive conversation.

Jharkhand will vote in Phase 4 of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections on May 13.

“This is definitely an energising factor for all of us. It is giving hope to all of us, to every party worker of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and of INDIA Gathbandhan. We are delighted to have Kejriwal out and hope the same for Hemant Soren,” Kalpana said.

The newly anointed JMM leader said the Supreme Court order is in sync with constitutional provisions and rejected the argument that it has created a wrong precedent of treating politicians as a class separate from the aam aadmi.

“General elections happen once in five years. As a politician, it is our right to campaign, seek mandate, and fight these elections. In this day and age, it is required to make a level-playing field and to save our Constitution. Our Samvidhan [Constitution] is our main concern this election. I am delighted that judiciary has understood this reasoning,” she said.

The Enforcement Directorate had vehemently opposed Justice Sanjiv Khanna’s indication during earlier hearings that the bench was inclined to grant interim bail to Kejriwal.

Kalpana said she was thankful to the apex court for not accepting the ED’s argument. “I would want to thank the judicial system because we know it is the most powerful system of our Constitution… that Constitution which is for the people, of the people and by the people. That Constitution needs to be saved. My support and my party’s support is for Kejriwal. We are feeling more powerful to have Kejriwal sir amongst us in the upcoming elections and in the political fight ahead,” she said.

Using Hemant Soren’s X handle, Kalpana put up a post on similar lines, hailing the Constitution of the country.

The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Kejriwal till June 1, facilitating his release from prison nearly two months after his arrest by the ED in connection with a money-laundering case linked to Delhi excise policy.
