Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday cautioned voters against supporting Congress candidates in the upcoming general election, asserting that they would ultimately join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to reporters in Karimgamj district, Assam Chief Minister said, “Don’t spoil your valuable vote by casting for Congress candidate because tomorrow or day after they are going to join BJP if they win.. Casting your vote for Congress candidates is meaningless.”
Responding to a question about Congress’ chances in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, he remarked, “Forget about prospects, firstly, voters should inquire whether the Congress candidates will stay with the party or not. Because, except for one Congress candidate, I can bring all others to the BJP.”
The Assam CM also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed confidence in his re-election for a third term.
“This is the power of our PM Modi ji. His activeness and dedication toward his work attract everyone to the BJP. PM Modi is the Sun, and we all are his moons,” Sarma said.
Addressing concerns about the protection of minority communities, the Assam CM stated, “There is no distinction between minority and mainstream citizens because ultimately, PM Modi will be the Prime Minister. His motto, ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’, ensures that PM will work for everyone, including minority communities.”
Sarma expressed confidence that the BJP candidate from the Guwahati constituency would secure the highest number of votes, stating, “I’ll be there to look after.”
Regarding the fate of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, the Assam CM said that Gogoi would not succeed in the Jorhat LS constituency. However, concerning the prospects in Dhubri, he reiterated that the BJP is not hoping to win that seat.
