The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition is likely to win 18 seats in Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party 7 and the Congress-led Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) none, according to the News18 Mega Opinion Poll. The survey has predicted 50% vote share for the NDA, 6% for INDIA, 41% for YSRCP and 3% for others.
This year, the BJP, TDP and Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena are contesting the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls together. Back in 2014, when TDP and BJP fought the polls together, Jana Sena was their outside ally.
As per their seat-sharing formula for 2024, the BJP will contest six Lok Sabha and 10 Assembly seats, while the TDP will fight 17 parliamentary and 144 state seats. Under the deal, Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena will contest two Lok Sabha and 21 Assembly seats.
The state has 25 Lok Sabha and 175 Assembly seats.
Jana Sena was initially supposed to contest 24 Assembly and three Lok Sabha seats, but in the seat-sharing formula it got 21 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats, after the TDP joined the NDA recently.
Close on the heels of the TDP, Jana Sena and BJP alliance, YSRCP supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said he doesn’t have tie-ups with any party and is going to the polls alone with the support of ‘star’ campaigners from poor households.

The Congress, meanwhile, has proclaimed that “as soon as the party comes to power” at the Centre, it will accord a 10-year special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The declaration was made by Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila, the estranged sister of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The YSR Congress had swept the 2019 elections with 151 seats in the 175-member Assembly and 22 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats. It had received a staggering 49.9% (Assembly) and 49.1% (Lok Sabha) vote share.
The Telugu Desam Party got 39.2% (Assembly) and 39.6% (Lok Sabha) share. It won just 23 seats in the Assembly and three seats in the Lok Sabha.
The Congress had managed to poll an aggregate of 3,68,878 votes across all the 175 Assembly constituencies, a mere 1.17% of the gross 3.13 crore-odd votes cast. It was worse than in 2014 when it managed 8,02,072 votes (2.77%).

Interestingly, NOTA percentage was better than that of the Congress in 2019. In all, 4,01,969 NOTA votes (1.28 per cent) were polled.
The BJP got an aggregate of 2,64,303 votes (0.84%) in the 174 constituencies it contested. In 2014, in the company of TDP, the BJP had secured 6,32,599 votes (2.18%) in the 13 Assembly segments it contested. It had won four seats then.
In the Lok Sabha battle too the BJP managed just 0.96% votes while the Congress got 1.29%. Even here, the NOTA share was 1.49%.
